State Level Conference on ‘Tamasha’

Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s Loknete Vyankatrao Hire (LVH) College is organizing two-day conference on Maharashtra’s age-old folk theatre, Tamasha on February 21-22, 2012 at Parshuram Saykhedkar Auditorium, Nasik. The conference is being held under Pune University’s ‘Gunvatta Sudhar Yojana’ by Department of Marathi, LVH College. The conference is to be inaugurated at 10 am by Sambhaji Jadhav of Marathi Tamasha Parishad while the chairperson will be Prashant Hire of Mahatma Gandhi Vidhyamandir. The event will be started with but obvious Lavani performance.

Head of Marathi Department Dr. Vishwanath Shinde of Shivaji University, Dr. Milind Kasabe from Narayangaon and folk art researcher Sandesh Bhandare will be the guest speakers on first day of the conference. Dr. Bhaskar Shelke and Dr. Vedshri Thigale are going to attend the conference.

Second day will have on dais Mangesh Bansod of Mumbai Academy of Theater Arts, followed by lively speech of Ganesh Chandanshive. Chandanshive is head of department at Lok Kala (folk art) Academy, Mumbai.

The conference is organized to let people realize and change their outlook towards Tamasha, because this kind of theater is integral part of Marathi folk literature and there should happen wise discussion on it. Dean of Arts, Fine Art and Performing Arts, University of Pune Dr. Ashok Chaskar, Chairman of the board of studies (Marathi) of the University of Pune Dr. Snehal Tavare, Principal Dr. R K Deore, Principal Dr. Ujwala Deore, Principal Dr. Dilip Dhondge and Principal Dr. Motiram Deshmukh are going to attend the conference.
