Infant Jesus Fair Celebrated Ardently

Hundreds and thousands of Christian devotees from all over India and world returned blissfully to their places after ardent celebration of once-a-year fair at Infant Jesus Shrine located along Nasik-Pune Road, Nasik. Like every year, lots of stalls selling toys, candles, flowers, souvenirs, foodstuff including grapes, raisins and many more attractive merchandise added the feel of fair this year also.

This fair has distinctive meaning since it is one of those two festivals that are celebrated only at Infant Jesus temples. The only Infant Jesus temple besides Nasik’s temple is one that is situated in Prague city of Czech Republic, Europe. Father Peter Luis started this feast in 1961 and since then, it is being passionately celebrated every year in February. With a new topic every year, the festival is celebrated throughout third Saturday of February enduring up to half day of following Sunday.

On second day of the feast i.e. February 19, 2012, masses were held every hour from 7am to 12 noon in both Marathi and English at the play ground of Saint Xavier's High School. Father Tony D’Souza, father Rudy Fernandez, father Neelam Lopes, father Lohan Alfonse, father Joakim Telist, father Louis Decruse, father Rebelo guided the devotees.
Except for the bottle neck traffic on Nasik-Pune Road from Big Bazzar to Infant Jesus shrine, the fair peacefully accomplished and disciples from various cities like Mumbai, Vasai, Goa, Belgaon and Kerala, delightfully hit the road for their homes.
