A Survey By TFCI Recommends Some Suggestions For Godavari

In a recent survey done by the state government, it has discovered that the water in river Godavari is too polluted for ritual bathing; so far from utilize it for drinking purposes.

Tourism and Finance Corporation of India (TFCI) was invited by district collectorate to conduct a survey of river Godavari. TFCI is a central government agency which also surveyed the Nasik city and its nearby locations to recommend actions for encouragement of tourism, with an exclusive focus on religious tourism. The report has been submitted to the government.

Installing a water purification system at Ram Kund in Godavari has been demanded by the TFCI. At Ram Kund most of the pilgrims take the holy dip.

The reasons for Godavari pollution has been pointed out by the body including the encroachments and the absence of cleanliness and sanitation measures on the river bank, release of untreated sewage in the river by the Nasik Municipal Corporation. The inspection was performed recently and the trouble is only predictable to worsen meanwhile the Kumbh mela, when people in huge quantity will have bath in the water of Godavari.

The survey report has strongly pointed out inadequate quality of food at religious places, lack of cleanliness and the lack of washroom facilities at places of tourist importance. The report also highlighted lack of maintenance of old buildings and temples, absence of signage for the tourist and lesser recreation facilities, improper roads. The report also described that most of the places either lack kiosks, or lack quality. This has to be developed considering the tourists' love for food. The lack of transparency in fares charged by auto rickshaw and taxi drivers was also surveyed by TFCI.
