Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA) was started in the year 1906 in Pune, as a 'Central Police Training School. It shifted to Nasik in 1908 and since then it has been functioning in Nasik. Maharashtra Police Academy performs the crucial task of providing basic training to police inspectors who are responsible for maintaining law and order in the state. The officers who are directly recruited at the supervisory level also get training in this Academy. Important officers of Indian police were also trained in Nasik before the college was shifted to Mount Abu.
It is a pioneer institute which celebrated its 100 years in 2007. Very few training institutes in the country can be matched with MPA. The Academy has history of delivering efficient and most capable officers since its inauguration. Maharashtra Police Academy has a legacy of English officers and senior officers at the command. The officers who got training through this institute have performed very well in the field.
Maharashtra Police Academy runs various special programs like promotional course and re-orientation course for departmental officers. Apart from this, academy trains officers of various departments like Transport Dept, Forest Dept, Prohibition and Excise Department. The Academy has rich heritage and cultural tradition since pre-independence days of India. After necessary changes and expansion, it was upgraded as a Training College in 1961. Since 1962, Maharashtra Police Academy has provided training to 115 IPS officers and 149 Deputy supdt. of police. In the year 2007, in appreciation of MPA's contribution to the nation, it has been honored with a Commemorative Stamp by the Govt. of India. It is pride thing for the Nasikites that the institute of excellence, Maharashtra Police Academy hails from their city.
