Ashwini Kalsekar is one of such Nasik born personalities who has created a place for herself in Indian television and movies.

Known for her negative-shaded roles, Ashwini Kalsekar is a famous Indian soap opera actress. She was born in 1970 near Nasik in Maharashtra, as a daughter of Dr. Vaibhav Kalsekar, a railways doctor. Pursuing theatre from 1991-1994, her most famous period was 1992-1993. It was the time when she was an understudy to renowned actress Neena Gupta. Ashwini is married to film and television character actor Murali Sharma.

Ashwini got a break in 1996 in Marathi film titled 'Tula Jhapar La, where she portrayed a prostitute. The journey was followed by a number of important movies in Marathi where she played a supporting actress. In mid 1990's, Ashwini started her television career with daily soaps like Anjaane, Shanti, C.I.D., Siddhant, K.Street Pali Hill, etc. before she bagged her biggest role, Jigyaasa in Kasamh Se. For this role, she won the ITA award for Best Actor in a negative role.

She has also acted in various Hindi movies like All The Best : Fun Begins, Johnny Gaddar, Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3, Apaharan and Phoonk. She grabbed the Telugu producers attention with her performance in Ram Gopal Varmas film Rakta Charitra, where she played the role of a police officer.

Though famous as the bad girl of television, Ashwini Kalsekar is quite a charmer in real life. Polite and clear headed, she is one of those people who use every ounce of opportunity which come their way, including doing her make-up in the car at long traffic jam! Ashwini is also a trained Kathak dancer and is craving for a role which has something to do with dance. Apart from being an actress, Ashwini is also an artist. She designs abstract silver jewelry, paints, and even likes to read.

Entirely in love with the art of acting and television, Ashwini feels that its the audience who drives the scripts of daily soaps. This self-confessed workaholic says, Its because of the audience that today I am what I am.;She loves beautifying her eyes. She says, Eyes are the most expressive thing you have. In fact, its my eyes which do most of the work on-screen.

With her particular negative role, Ashwini had made a place for herself in the heart of millions. Today, she continues to act in high profile television serials. This vivacious actress has come a long way and achieved a great level of recognition throughout the county. And thereby, this Nasik girl has created a mark for herself in Indian television and film industry within a very short span of time.
