Ramachandra Pandurang Tope was an Indian leader who was well-known as Tatya Tope. He was born in Yeola village, in the Nasik district of Maharashtra in the year 1814. He was the only son of Pandurang Tope and during his childhood, Tatya became sworn enemy of the British government and that's why he participated in Indian Rebel of 1857.
He was a strong supporter of Nana Sahib and participated in Gwalior contingent when British occupied Kanpur. He enforced General Windham to get escaped from Kanpur. For some part of his life, he helped Rani Laxmi Bai to get rescued from the prison. Tatya Tope has represented army of shivarajpur as a Commander-in-chief. He protected Kanpur gallantry and secured Kalpi. His efficient leadership led the Indian force to capture Kanpur. His guerilla tactics threatened the British officials and that's why he conquered numerous battles against British government.
The uprising of 1857 rebel against British was a notable event under the leading guidance of Tatya Tope. He was the most admired personality of 18th century, who had foresight, zeal and courage to fight anyone for India's freedom. His regular assistance to Rani Laxmi Bai resulted in a strong hope among India's freedom fighters and the motivation factor got spread all over the India.
With his death on 18th April 1859, India missed the sun of great uprising rebel. The incident has given tears of sorrow and at the same time pride to the people of Nasik. The sorrow was for the loss of a great warrior, while the pride for the reason that such a great warrior was born on their soil.
